OCD Anyone?

Last night while I was sitting on my bed, I began doing my nightly ritual and realized that it has become an obsession. Well, maybe not obsession, but something similar. When I'm ready to go to bed, I go to my room and change in to my big 'ol t-shirt that I wear to bed. Then comes the ritual. Out comes the body lotion and I use it on my legs, arms, torso, and feet. of course, I make sure my feet are smooth first, because if they aren't.. out comes the foot file. Then it's the face thing. Astringent on a cotton swab cleans my face and neck. Then another type of lotion goes on my face. Teeth whitening strips go on next, and finally the lip moisturizer. I'm addicted to carmex. That is a must! Seems without it, I feel like my lips will dry up and fall off while I'm sleeping. Then I watch tv while laying there until it's time to remove the whitening strip from my teeth. I think I need help.

Finally...a Dream!

It's been awhile that I posted about my dreams, but only because I could never remember them after I woke. Not so today though, and it was all about the prom. Kinda odd considering mine was back in 1991. So here goes... I was wearing a black sparkly dress that was actually very cool. For some reason we couldn't have it at the school, so we had it at a big restaurant. As we walked in, couples at a time, the food crowd applauded and cheered. My date was a guy that was pretty good looking, but no-one I know. I can see his face clearly in my head, but he doesn't remind me of anyone in reality. But I wanted him! He was 6'2", and I only know that because it was mentioned in the dream. Bah! Dreams are sooo much better than reality! Of course, my real prom was awesome. Went with Brett, the hottest guy in school! He had hair down to his ass, which was my thing back then. Now it doesn't matter. Long, short, bald...whatever.

Curls Be Gone!

Why the hell is it that when you cut your hair dramatically, it curls? For my entire life I've always had very long hair that was completely straight. I recently cut off a foot of it, which of course I regret, and now it wants to curl. Ugh! I want my straight hair back! Time for some extra strength Biotin to get this curly mess to grow faster. If anyone has other ideas, send them my way!

Eh, it was alright. But it was toooo much like the first one. I loved the first installment, but this one was just ok. If I were you I wouldn't pay the 8 bucks to see it in the theater. Wait for it to hit cable.

Addiction at it's Best

Yep, I'm addicted to Carmex. No, I don't have a cold sore or fever blister either. Every night when I go to bed, I put some on my lips. They seem to get so chapped during the night. Must be that damn fan I have on all of the time. Or, maybe I'm just bonkers. Either way, I gotta have it!

Cherry Coke Zero

Oh yeah, good stuff. No carbs, no sugar, no fat, no calories.. NOTHING! I was a die hard Cherry Coke fanatic prior to surgery, and never liked diet drinks. BUT... this one rocks. I HIGHLY recommend it! It tastes just like original Cherry Coke to me, but of course my tastes have altered a bit since surgery. One of those freaky things I guess. I hope this is a permanent addition to the Coke line. Now if I could just get Speedway to to add it to their fountain drink dispenser!

Bariatric Advantage

I've literally tried dozens of chewable multi-vitamins, believe me. So far, I can only tolerate one. They actually aren't that bad. Tropical flavor that is. My surgeon gave me a bottle on my last visit, so it cost me nothing to try them. Bariatricadvantage.com sells them in 60 count bottles for $16.95. Kinda pricey considering I have to take 3-4 a day. I have another appointment with Dr. Inman on January 31... maybe I can squeeze another bottle or 2 out of her :)

Mom's Taco Braid

1 tsp Active Dry Yeast
2 Tbsp Sugar, divided
¾ cup Warm water, divided
2 cups Flour
2 Tbsp Butter
2 Tbsp Nonfat Dry Milk Powder
1 Egg, beaten
½ tsp Salt

Filling:
1 lb Ground Beef
1 can Tomato Sauce
1 Egg, beaten
½ cup Shredded Cheddar
¼ cups Mushrooms, sliced
2 Tbsp Taco Seasoning
¼ cups Black Olives, slice

In a mixing bowl, dissolve yeast with 1 tsp sugar in ½ cup water; let stand 5 minutes. Add butter, milk powder, egg, salt, remaining sugar and water. Stir in enough flour to form soft dough. Turn onto floured surface. Knead until smooth and elastic, and place in a greased bowl, turning once to grease top. Cover and let rise in a warm place until doubled in size, about 1 hour. In a large skillet, cook beef and mushrooms over medium heat until browned; drain. Stir in tomato sauce and taco seasoning. Stir in all but 1 Tbsp of egg. Cool completely. Turn dough onto lightly floured surface and roll into a 15X12 rectangle. Place on greased cookie sheet. Spread filling length wise down center third of dough. Sprinkle with cheese and olives. On each side, cut 1-inch wide strips about 2½ inches to center. Starting at one end, fold alternating strips at an angle across filling. Pinch ends to seal and tuck underneath and let rise again for 30 minutes. Brush with reserved egg. Bake at 350º for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown. Yum-O!!!

What a Nightmare!

Greetings all. Finally decided to spend some time online to make an update. Mom's surgery was textbook. Everything went as planned and she was released on Saturday evening to come home. The recovery... not so textbook. On Sunday morning, I went to wake my mom around 9. She normally doesn't sleep that late, but I figured she was just medicated and exhausted from her surgery. Not so. She was sweating profusely, and unresponsive. Her eyes were rolled back in her head and she was mumbling. It was like she had a massive stroke. Called an ambulance. She had gone in to diabetic shock. Her blood sugar had dropped to 20! I have NEVER been so scared in my life! She was admitted to the hospital and they did many tests. They also found that she has post-op pneumonia. All day Sunday they had a difficult time getting her sugar above 50. Monday morning at 6am the phone rang. Uh-oh! It was the hospital calling telling me to get up there! Mom's blood sugar had bottomed out and she had a bad seizure. Talk about freaking out! When my dad and I got there, she was alert, but very upset about it all. She had not had any sleep, as the nurse kept her up all night making her eat to raise her levels. And even all day Monday she was unable to fall asleep. I think her nerves were shot to hell. Finally she fell asleep around 8pm, so I went home. Bright and early Tuesday morning I went back up, and found out that her blood sugars were finally stable. Apparently sometime in the night, they just went back to normal. Whew! The doctor said if she reached 150 and remained there or at least 3 hours, he would release her to come home. She did it. She came home, and I'm sure I tested her blood every 20 minutes or so. Paranoia at it's best! When I put her to bed for the night, I was scared I would find her in bad shape in the morning. I was wrong, thank God! I checked her sugar at 6am, and it was great. So far, so good. I've still been testing her frequently, and they have maintained. Back to normalcy. Of course I'm still checking her often, and I have a big supply of candies should the need arise. Now is the recovery period from her back surgery. She has to wear an awful brace, but I'm sure it's necessary. As of now, all is well. Thanks to everyone for the messages and emails. It's been a rough and exhausting ride. One I hope I NEVER have to experience again.

Titanium Replacement

Greetings all. This morning at 10:30 my mom will be having back surgery. It is a pretty extensive surgery and she is a little scared. As many of you might know, my mom is the light of my life, and I love her more than life itself. Please send some good vibes her way today. She will be in the hospital for 2-3 days. So today at 10:30 I will be sitting in the waiting room for a few hours, probably doing a crossword and worrying about the outcome.

Lots of love from me and mom! Cheers!

Stone Sour - Bother

Wish I was too dead to care
If indeed I cared at all
Never had a voice to protest
So you fed me shit to digest
I wish I had a reason;
my flaws are open season
For this, I gave up trying
One good turn deserves my dying

Sonic Blade

Let this one stay on TV folks! It sucks. I've had to glue pieces back on it a few times. It claims you don't have to put any pressure on it, that it cuts on it's own. Well whatever! What a load of crap. The button to "lock" it is in the same place as the trigger, so when you are cutting (or attempting to), you have to constantly stop to unlock it because you accidentally tripped it! Bad form all around. Thumbs DOWN!

Zicam - Extreme Congestion

I've had the flu lately, and finally I had to break down and buy some medicine. A cure, no, but relief.. absolutely! This is my first time using this product, and I must say, it was worth every cent of the $10.99 purchase price. It rocks! When it says it works for 12 hours, it means it. Of course I've read about all of the side effects, but who cares when you feel like crap! It works, and that's all that matters to me right now.
